The Attack of the Moles

They're everywhere! They're everywhere! They're everywhere! Just like Chickenman. Only moles are not here to amuse or fight crime. They do make a mess of a really nice lawn.

Wouldn't you know it, they managed to come up for air or a look around right along the front of our property and near the corner.

This is even a better view of their progress.

This is just one of the piles of dirt from their digging. I guess I am going to have to google moles to determine the best way to deal with them. The folks who took care of our attic mess also deal with critters. In fact they are called Catch-it Wildlife and Pest Control. They will set traps to capture them and remove them. The fee is probably worth it--$129 for 5-12 traps and an additional $59 to remove each critter. They even have a 30 day guarantee. However, the $59 removal fee will still be charged. Maryann and I will discuss it and decide. It has taken a long time and several lawn services to get the yard looking as good as it did this year.

That's not a nice view. I've read that earthworms attract these moles. However, we all know that these worms are good for our soil so we can't just get rid of them so we can control the moles. I guess you reall have to set traps. But they don't look good as well, too. Oh my! It's good that we don't have that in our place or else my mama will scream everytime she checks her beloved grass.

If it isn't one thing it's another. Could you set your own traps then have the service remove the critters? Can you put any poison down the holes? That's never a popular suggestion, but it may be one that would deter other moles from taking up the vacancy.

I have to comment on this one as Clem read it and was chuckling away and enjoying your photos of your lawn. We find it amusing having no moles in Australia but we do have bandicoots which are protected.
I guess the wallabies that come to nibble on new grass around our home just don't figure the same. Still we found your descriptions and photos very entertaining... I know, at the expense of your lovely lawn. It looks nice anyway.
