Post license #1 - 2006

The state of Kansas says the new real estate agents must get an additional 30 hours of training within six months of obtaining their temporary license. So here we are helping these five folks meet that requirement. (Demographics for those who have an interest in that sort of thing. Four females, one male, three of the females from the same agency, age range late 20's to mid-thirties.)

The morning is devoted to them successfully passing the required test. It is an open book test and they are allowed to work as a group. It is a lot of fun listening to their very active discussion. I make a great effort to stay out of the discussion. When they do ask for help I let them tell me the rationale for their choice. I do not give them any more of the answer than that it could be a, b, c, or d. Aren't I a big help? They are doing quite well.

In the afternoon I have a series of five practical exercises that will teach them some of the fundamentals of what they will be doing as agents. It seems appropriate to help them understand the required agency disclosure, to determine how much property buyers can afford, how to review a sales contract and complete the required estmated cost sheets, and finally how to review a settlement statement for completeness and accuracy.

We should be out of here in time for Maryann and I to get back home and watch the KU, Nebraska basketball game from tip off to the end. Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
